"Singer and actress Natsumi Abe, a former member of the all-girl pop group Morning Musume, faces charges after hitting and injuring a motorcyclist in a traffic accident in Tokyo, it has been learned.

Police plan to send public prosecutors documents on the 26-year-old singer, accusing her of negligent driving resulting in injury in connection with the accident, which occurred in Tokyo's Shibuya-ku on Sunday evening.

"I slammed on the brakes, but I didn't make it in time," Abe was quoted by police as saying.

Investigators said that Abe drove out of a car park onto a road in Shibuya-ku shortly after 7 p.m. on Sunday, causing a motorcyclist approaching from the right to swerve and hit the right side of her vehicle.

The motorcyclist, a 33-year-old man, suffered light injuries to his back and right knee in the accident.

Abe had just obtained her driver's license in July this year."

man, lets hope they decide not to charge her, and H!P don't over-react :(

It was a minor traffic accident with some minor injuries. She might have to pay a fine or something, but it's not the end of the world.

I doubt they'll fire her.

I mean it's not like it was something serious. Like, say, plagiarism.

I think some people here have their priorities out... Nacchi was in a car and she had an accident with a motorcyclist... I mean Nacchi SHOULDN'T have gotten fatally injured or injured anyway.

But it's a good thing that the guy only suffered minor injuries if something serious did happen I'm pretty sure they won't fire her. Seeing as she is still under H!P even though she was charged of plagiarism.

Yes. She was, of course, on the famous H!P All Stars Utaban special (25/11/2004) - but in other performances (filmed after the revelation) her lines were given to Yuko.
