A lots of discussion in the chat box lately, so lets make the official thread.
what do you think? what the best? what sucks?
I saw the Death Note movie, it is pretty good.
I don't mind them, as you say, the Death Note movies were really good. And a good deal of the dorama's I've watched were adapted from manga too.
In the Chat Box we were talking about the new DBZ movie. The problem with that movie isn't the fact that it's a Live Action adaption, but because it's a Hollywood adaption. Hollywood's limited understanding of the fans, and indeed reality, means they very rarely ever create a good movie.

I imagine the producers will want to expand their audience beyond the fans - geeky teens feeking nostalgic for their tween years. Good lord, spare us all. Nostalgia ain't what it used to be.

I was never a fan of DB nor have I watched the movie so I can't comment on it.
But to go with pink-ku's topic, I think what makes a bad live-action adaptation is the CG that goes with it. When CG becomes dead obvious that it is fake then it just kills the show.
I thought Prince of Tennis was a bad adaption for the reason above the CG was much too fake. But I liked DN, maybe because of the lack of CG involved...
Lack of CG in Death Note?
Did you SEE Ryuuku in the movie? XD

i havent read the manga, but i remember the city hunter movie (feat jackie chan) was quite entertaining
havent seen it in about 10 years tho so maybe i'll watch it again to see how it's held up
now this wasnt a cinematic piece of art, but a rather goofy and fun tounge-in-cheek movie, just so you know :)

I didn't mean as that there was no CG just that there wasn't really that much. Also the story was less dependent on CG.
Hmm... maybe that's what I should have said. Live-actions that are less dependent on CG is better.

I've Seen a few ANIME LIVE action adaptations
Death Note : The Last Notes (2 Parts) + L: Change the World
Inspector Conan - Live Action (10th Anniversary OPV)
Prince Of Tennis - Live Action
If you are faithful to the MANGA, you might be dissapointed at the POT-Live.
They tried to compress the whole DEATH NOTE series in one Movie.. So they had to change the plotlines a bit...

I like the Prince of Tennis Live action movie.
Partly because I'm a fangirl of Aiba Hiroki who is Fuji in the live action
