I think they're gonna releade their 10th single on Feb 27th. It's called Sakura no Hanabiratachi 2008. But that's all i know.

Yup. They have 48 girls but only some of their PVs have all of them in it like Bingo. I just recently watched the subtitled version of Seifuku ga jama wo suru and the meaning gave me a shock.

What I know they are divided into 3 groups: A, K and B with 16 girls each.
Each group operates independently, just like MM, berryz and c-ute, and sometime they are all get together. They are NOT H!P.

Yeah. They're not even close to H!P. IMO their songs is more mature and revolves around love. But then seifuku ga jama wa suru is about sex among high school kids. That's what shocked me earlier.

I really love their song Keibetsu Shiteita Aijo. It made me cry the first time I heard it :P
AKB48 kind of confuse me with their image. They release mature songs Seifuku ga jama wa suru (great song! :P) but then seem to change their image later on to release more 'pop' style songs. When I first seen the video for Skirt hirai I first thought the main audience of the band were male but then after a listening to a few of their later songs it seem's they're trying to change their image again.

Despite having so many in the group I can pick out a few as favourites though I only know one of their names :P

I have them on my ipod but I haven't listened to them yet :P I'll have to check out the PV when I take a break from H!P and revision (which is probably never XD) I heard they die a chocolatley death or something in ther video so it sounds intresting enough. :D

Yeah. Kinda. I like their videos. It's kinda unique in a way that they made it like scenes from a movie. It's great to see something new. It's kinda boring to see all girls dancing and singing in a PV sometimes.

The 80's supergroup 'Onyanko Club' made a similar, Sērāfuku o Nugasanai de ("Don't Make Me Take Off My Sailor Suit").

The OC was the group Tsunku based Hello Project and Morning Musume. It was manage by Akimoto (who is the man behind the AKB-48 phenomenon)

Songwriter and Producer Akimoto has a habit of putting controversial topics in his songs :)

This is my 1st time hanging around this thread & I am also a HUGE AKB48 Fan.I love almost all of their singles & My fave member is Haruna-chan! AKB48 Is not THAT evil though.though ohori(the pervy one) is kind of evil though,trying to grope all of the members.

I only recently became a fan of AKB48 but their music is very good. I love the setlist shows because some of their songs are very mature (ie/ sexual innuendo's) which is a little more to my liking than the current pop music being made in H!P.

My favourite single is Iiwake Maybe (very catchy tune) and my favourite song is Faint.

Is there any other songs where they sing in English similar to Faint.

AKB48 achieved their first #1 album this week, with "Kamikyokutachi" selling nearly 295,000 copies. That sets this year's record for first-week album sales by a female artist. It is also the first album by a female group to break the 250,000 mark since Morning Musume's "4th Ikimasshoi!" in 2002.

Yeah, I agree. Few days ago I've read about a former AKB48 member that will soon enter the world of AV. That was disappointing...:(
I downloaded some of Atsuko Maeda photobooks, but then deleted 90% of them because most of pics were, frankly, embarrassing. Too many (unnecessary) titillating shoots. They are all beautiful, talented and their songs are just great, so, shouldn't that be enough?
I know that show business is totally money-minded, but a little bit of dignity doesn't hurt...

Like to watch idols cry? Well here's AKB48's latest video "Anata ga itekuretakara" - seems a little exploitative if you ask me, but the song itself sure is catchy. The video apparently comes with the Best of album which is just about to be released.

Things i like & dislike about AKB48;

Like;
1. I REALLY like their recent music- i MUCH prefer their more legit pop group image that they promote these days in comparison to the "wota pervert candy group" image they used to promote more in the past. I also think that their music is a getting a lot better, with River being a great song (awesome song v^.^v !) as well as many others.
2. All the girls in the group are very good looking & very talented- lots of good voices in the group. I like the groups energetic attitude and the fashions they wear as a group.
3. The PV's are all great, really think that Tsunku could learn something from AKB48 here- i can watch the PV's lots of times without getting bored & i love the creativity in a lot of the PV's.
4. I've just started watching some of their concerts and i think they're really good! I was expecting them to be pretty much identical to H!P/MM concerts, but they do actually differ from each other in good ways.

Dislike;
1. The group is so massive and there isn't much information on individual members, so its difficult to find any particular favorite member. I prefer MM more in this respect.
2. If older stars in H!P are ignored, ex-AKB48 stars seem to have even less good outcomes after leaving the group?
3. Its not H!P lol. But competition is good i guess, and there's no shame in choosing to like a group because you sincerely like the music they produce ^_^b ! I guess brand name loyalties are a bit silly.

Yep, AKB48 has changed a great deal over the last year or two, and i think all the changes are really positive (well the sales figures say it all!) & i honestly can't find much to fault over them. Although my interest in AKB48 is really new, i guess i'm becoming (dare i say it) an AKB48 fan :P !
Some of the older fans don't seem to like AKB48's changes, but its the changes they have made in recent times that now make me respect & really like the group :) .

I'm also a recent fan of AKB48 and I agree with you Tokis, AKB48 made a quality leap, both in terms of image and songs. And the PV's... oh, just awesome, really. I think I've watched Iiwake Maybe PV a trizillion of times (even on my cellphone) and still I enjoy it as the first time....

Another thing I really like about them is CD's. Today I got my copy of Kanzenban and Kamikyoku Tachi and I'm very satisfied. Package, booklets, pictures, bonus PV's versions and so on... all so perfect! When I got my copy of Ponytail to ShuShu, I was impressed: a single with 3 good songs and 3 PV's is ALWAYS worth buying. H!P groups should pattern on this...

Oh, and they're doing a concert in Italy later this year! Interesting.

Osaka-based NMB48 to launch this fall

AKB48 and SKE48 are soon going to get a new sister group. NMB48, named after the Namba area of Osaka, is going to officially launch this fall. The news was announced during an AKB48 concert on Saturday at the Yoyogi National Gymnasium.

NMB48 already has an official website and is currently gathering girls for an audition that will start this summer. The group is expected to start activities in November.

UPDATE: AKB48 also announced that they will perform in Italy this October, followed by performances in Singapore and Macau in November.

1. Super-perv stuff! I don't know how more risky you can get than having young girls kissing in sexy lingerie in bed without making it R-rated...

Yeah, i don't really approve of all this OTT super wota perv stuff (especially considering there are girls as young as 15 in the group)- its just an outragiously blatent attempt to market the girls bodies in an attempt to get guys to buy the singles.

2. The single itself is pretty lame- it just repeats the same lyrics over & over...& over. Yeah, not really doing much for me "goes back to listening to Morning Musume".

The song's REALLY catchy, though; yesterday I had Heavy Rotation stuck in my head. All. Day.

Also, there's only two girls of the main 12 that get shown in the perv scenes that are underage. The vast majority of the girls are 18+. Also, they often tend to tone down pervy things for Jurina, who's 13; in Ponytail to Shushu, she wore the swimsuit that had a tank top and thus covered most of herself. She has a couple of iffy scenes, but none of the worst scenes. Actually, they focused a bit more on the legal SKE member, Rena. So most of the worst of the pervy scenes weren't focused on the two underage members (Watanabe Mayu and Matsui Jurina) but on the members who were 100% old enough.

Some of the scenes make me go "Really? Is that a bit too much?" but overall, the fact is that it's a well made PV with a pretty good song attached to it. AKB's winning me over.

Anyways, I MUCH prefer the Undergirls song/PV; my absolute favorite AKB member is the center to this one!! (the undergirls are the girls who ranked #22-#40 in the popularity election)

Ah, I agree with Tokis once again. The new single is not so good as I expected (nothing beats Iiwake Maybe for me :p) and the PV is bad taste. I don't like it at all. It's just a poor expedient.

You can sell your image and music the way you wish, but there's a limit, especially considering age of most the girls...

Anyway, I hope the next single will be better. I really love AKB48 all in all.

At this point unless AKB and Arashi release something the same week, that's not happening. Especially now that Heavy Rotation is selling just a LITTLE less than Ponytail to ShuShu (but REALLY close) even though Heavy Rotation has no gimmicks behind it; no election, no REAL reason to buy multiple copies. So AKB really has a lot of popular, mainstream appeal.

Actually, they're REALLY mainstream now. Ponytail to Shushu had the senbatsu election, where fans voted by buying singles to see which member made it into the main single, so for THAT wota bought multiple copies. There's NO promotional gimmick like that for Heavy Rotation, so by that logic Ponytail to ShuShu really should have sold more than Heavy Rotation, yet Heavy Rotation beat Ponytail's first week sales by about 20,000. This really shows that there's mainstream appeal to AKB, and that it's not just gimmicky.

And yet... Here's me. Someone who likes to *buy* the singles of songs that I really like, to give something back to the artist. And who absolutely loves this song. And who wants to buy the CD. But who won't be buying the CD.

Why? Well, as much as I like seeing pretty women in their undies (and, you know, I really do), this video has several underage girls in it and on some level I don't think I should be rewarding that kind of exploitation.

So I won't be buying the CD. I guess I'm just a rebel!

A lot of AKB fans are arguing that AKB in lingerie is no different than H!P in bikinis but it really is....

Bikinis serve the purpose as swimwear. Yes, more revealing, but the were made as a cuter more fashionable as more comfortable form of Swimwear.

Lingerie is used for sex and things related to sex and all that stuff.

Momusu in bikinis on Alo Hello makes sense as it takes place in Hawaii and it's a beach setting. They're not gonna wear sweats and a t-shirt at a beach.

AKB in lingerie for a pv...doesn't make sense other than "we want to be number one, lets do what we can to ensure people want us and support us"

I want to like AKB because some of their songs are cute and fun but I am really turned off by the fanservice. H!P may fanservice but it's not nearly the same caliber as AKB...

I think the sexy, lingerie, mature, suggestive themes should be saved for SDN48. It works for them because when they do it, it's sexy but when AKB does it it feels wrong.

I loved the Alo Hello Bikinis. They were cute. Lots of them had a skirt attached and were very pretty and colorful.

I like some of AKB48 songs too but I don't like how they market their girls.

Comparing Photobooks as well Morning Musume's are more tastful then AKB's

The last AKB48 PV was tacky and a putting underage girls. I have to say I like the part dressed up as cats its cute. The whole PV should of been them dressed as cats(Reina looks better dressed as a cat). I do like the song heavy rotation but it gets old after a while since it keeps repeating the same thing. I want you I need you.

Morning Musume is very Tastful in what they do for a pv but lately I feel that the costumes could be better. They were really good costumes in 2009 but this year its just its ehhh what are you thinking. You should hire meee fashion I have a better eye then the green and blue combo and weddin dresses.

OK, woah woah woah woah woah. I need to take us a step back with Heavy Rotation.

First. Everyone keeps going "UNDERAGE UNDERAGE" Yeah, well. There are 11 girls that are featured in this PV (up to Media senbatsu). Of those, the girls who are "underage" if you guys, like most Westerners, count underage being under 18 (though the age of consent in Japan is 13), guess how many girls are underage? Two. That's right. Two. There's Matsui Jurina who's the youngest at 13 and she isn't even shown in lingerie; she's in the bathtub scene and closeups, but that's it. And if anyone has issues with the bathtub scene, I point you to Kazoe no Uta Bath version. Different context, but still. Only her shoulders and knees are bare, ooooh.

(and for that matter, in the Ponytail to Shushu PV, she wears one of the more conservative swimsuits I've ever seen.)

The other underage girl, Watanabe Mayu, is 16, and while she does appear in the lingerie scenes she wears one of the least revealing out of the bunch, and she doesn't do much of the "provocative" things. THAT is done by girls who are over 18, legal, and often over 20; Oshima Yuko, the center/focus, is... 22, I think? She knows what she's doing.

Also, I'm sorry, but if you don't like fanservice by "underage" girls, then why aren't you more disturbed by H!P stuff? I find early H!P Kids stuff to be MUCH more personally offensive/disturbing than Heavy Rotation. 10-year-old girls singing "I can't live with out you" with a voice singing about how it was a "funky night"? A young, 9-10 year old girl thrusting her hips and singing "Love me love me love me?" That to me is MILES more disturbing than Heavy Rotation's playful sexiness by, for the most part, adults.

I'm sorry if I'm a bit snippy, but please do your research before you make comments (like "many of the girls are underage" or something like that).

I am disturbed by H!P fanservice too. I always discard songs/PV/pictures that look a little inappropriate to me. And this means H!P, AKB48 and all idols in general (oh, and tons of western music too). All kinds of sexual exploitation are equally deplorable.

And let me say, it's not only a matter of age, underage, over 16, under 18, legal or not...
